Presentation of the Call for Papers: Challenges and Perspectives at the Intersection of Metaverses, Generative Artificial Intelligence and Communication: Implications for Generation Alpha
Main Article Content
Abstract
The metaverse can be understood as a three-dimensional virtual world or as a network of interconnected virtual spaces where physical reality and digital virtuality merge, an evolution of the Internet particularly linked to immersive video games. Generation Alpha regularly participates in these environments through platforms such as Roblox, Fortnite or Minecraft, while companies like Meta, Decentraland or The Sandbox have tried, with less success, to expand these virtual worlds to other audiences. This context represents a paradigm shift compared to traditional social networks and is accompanied by the incorporation of non-playable characters managed by generative artificial intelligence (NEO NPCs). Although they enhance the user experience, they also raise concerns due to their unpredictable behavior, reputational risks, lack of transparency, and potential contribution to disinformation, especially in immersive experiences.
